BRIAN’S LEGACY
Heritage and family are two things that Brian is so very proud of, and last week I had the absolute honour of capturing both in some really powerful photographs.
A proud Scotsman by birth, Brian brought along the family kilt, his handsome wooden vest and jacket, and all the regalia to mark his birthday with a portrait. Something special for the grandkids – just like the treasured portrait he has of his own grandfather.
It was wonderful listening to his stories… how that cherished photograph of his grandfather, taken just before WWI, now sits in his jacket pocket for every funeral, wedding and occasion the tartan is worn. How the tradition of everyday kilt-wearing is once again becoming popular, and together we created a second, more casual look with his prized pounamu.
For me, photographing men isn’t about the same kind of transformation that women often look for – it’s about capturing who they are, what makes them proud, and the legacy they want to leave in the world.
So thank you Pam, for gifting Brian this beautiful experience. And to anyone else who would love images to celebrate the men in your life – I’d love to create something meaningful for you too.
